Tours, walking, VR and AR
Make walkthrough tours to share or export as video, walk through the model yourself, and view it in VR or AR.
There are several ways to take someone through a building in Stori3D. You can draw a tour on the plan and share it as a player or a video, walk through the model with the keyboard, or step into it with a VR headset or a phone.
Make a walkthrough tour
Choose File → Walkthrough tours…, or Walkthrough tours… from the Views chip. The Walkthrough tab is for tours the camera moves through, which visitors watch like a film.
Press Draw a route (with tours already there, New tour first). The view switches to the top view of the active level.
- Click on the plan to drop points. They snap like walls and join into a smooth curve.
- Drag a point to move it, click the line to insert one, and press
Deleteto remove the selected point.
Select a point to set:
- its Camera height: Seated, Eye, Above or Aerial, or a height of your own;
- a Pause there;
- the Speed to the next point;
- Where the camera looks: along the path, or at a spot you click on the model;
- the floor it stands on, so a path can climb to another level.
Doors on the route open as the camera goes through them. Press Preview to fly the tour in the viewport. To build a tour from cameras instead, use Move between views.
In a tour made from saved views, turn on Switch scenes: as the tour reaches each stop, it shows that view's scene, with its style, sky, sun, section and what's hidden. When the tour ends, the model is shown as it was. Videos and shared tour links switch scenes too.
Make a panorama tour
The 360° panorama tab is for tours visitors look around in: they stand at each saved view, look all round, and jump from one to the next.
- Choose the views. Tick the saved views to include. If there are none yet, stand the camera in a room and press Save the current view.
- Choose the quality, and a Size:
- Quick draws each view as the viewport does, in seconds.
- Realistic path traces each view with real light, glass and lamps, and takes minutes a view. Choose the Samples and whether to Denoise. Each view is timed first, so the progress shows how long is left from the start. Rooms take several times as long as outdoor views. Cancel stops it, and finished views are kept in this browser, so rendering again carries on from there and skips any that wouldn't change. If you've changed the model since, you choose which older renders to keep. Keep the tab in front while it renders, because browsers slow hidden tabs right down.
- Ultra-realistic is coming soon.
- Share it. Press Create link (or Render and create link), and it's copied for you. Anyone with the link can look round, with no account or download. Only the pictures and the plan go out, not your model.
A panorama link needs a cloud project and a plan with tour links. It doesn't follow your saves: press Update link after changing the design, and the same link shows the new panoramas. Stop sharing takes it down.
To keep the tour yourself, press Download as a file. It's one HTML file that opens in any browser, on a phone too, and you can email it or put it on your own website. It needs no account.
Each view becomes a 360° panorama from where it stands, in its own scene: style, sky and sun. Section cuts aren't shown. Hotspots link each panorama to the others, and the floor plan shows where they are.
Visitors drag to look around, and click a hotspot, a name or a dot on the plan to move. The picture stretches into streaks and snaps into the next panorama, which settles facing the way that saved view looks, so aim your saved views at what you want people to see first. Two views saved from the same spot, such as day and night, fade from one to the other, keeping where they're looking.
Share a tour
On the Walkthrough tab, under Share, press Create link on Tour link, then Copy. Visitors get a full-screen player with a timeline of the stops. They can't edit or orbit, and they don't need an account. The link updates when you save to the cloud, until you press Stop sharing.
- Let visitors walk around adds a Walk around button for visitors on computers.
- Project details shown with shared tours sets the Architect, Client, Location and Description on the player's card. Levels and floor area are added automatically.
- Scroll story shares the tour as a page that opens on the floor plan and builds the building as visitors scroll. Phones that can't show 3D get the plan and a video instead.
Export a tour as video
Press Export video… in the tour's Video section. Choose a Size (HD to 4K UHD, Square or Upright), a Frame rate and Quality. The MP4 is made frame by frame, so no frames are dropped on a slow computer.
Walk through the model
Press Walk through in the bottom toolbar, then click any floor to stand there. If a section cut is on, you can click inside a room.
- Move the mouse to look around. Click to capture the mouse, or drag to look.
WASDor the arrow keys walk,Shiftruns,Spacejumps andCcrouches.Eopens or closes the door or window in front of you.
Walls, closed doors and furniture block you, and you can climb stairs. Press Esc to pause and change the Walking speed, Eye height and Field of view. Exit walk puts the camera back. Walking never changes the model, and needs a keyboard. See Navigating.
View in VR
On a Meta Quest, open Stori3D in Meta Quest Browser, open your project and press VR / AR next to Walk through. Choose Walk through in VR:
- Push the right stick forward to aim a teleport arc, then release to jump. Push it left or right to turn.
- The left stick glides you along floors and stairs.
- The trigger opens and closes doors.
XorYshows the hand menu, with the furniture catalogue, Undo, Redo and Exit. Pick a piece, point, and pull the trigger to place it. Undo works and changes save as usual.
View in AR
- On a Quest or an Android phone (Chrome with ARCore): press VR / AR (on a phone, View in AR) and choose AR: tabletop model to set the model on a real table at 1:200 to 1:20, or AR: full size to stand in it at 1:1. On a phone, move it until the reticle finds a surface, then tap or press Place here. Move picks it up again, and Turn left and Turn right rotate it.
- AR: full size from the origin sets the model's origin (0,0) on the spot you point at, rather than the spot the editor camera looks at. On site, point at the set-out corner the model is drawn from, turn it to line up with the boundary, and place it.
- On an iPhone or iPad: press View in AR and choose AR: tabletop model (1:50, pinch to resize) or AR: full size. The model opens in Apple's AR Quick Look. It's view-only and never leaves your device.
Share links offer AR on phones too. See Sharing and review.
