Claude Desktop
- Open Claude Desktop's Settings → Developer → Edit Config. That opens
claude_desktop_config.json(on a Mac in~/Library/Application Support/Claude, on Windows in%APPDATA%\Claude). - Add Nexus3D under
mcpServers. If the file already lists servers, add the"nexus3d"entry next to them.
{
"mcpServers": {
"nexus3d": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "nexus3d-mcp@latest"]
}
}
}
- Save the file, then quit Claude Desktop completely and open it again. Nexus3D's tools show up in a new chat.
Claude Code
Run this once in a terminal. --scope user makes Nexus3D available in every folder you work in.
claude mcp add --scope user nexus3d -- npx -y nexus3d-mcp@latest
Type /mcp in Claude Code to check that nexus3d is connected.
Cursor
The button opens Cursor and asks you to install the server. To add it by hand instead, add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (create the file if it isn't there):
{
"mcpServers": {
"nexus3d": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "nexus3d-mcp@latest"]
}
}
}
Then ask in a chat in Agent mode.
VS Code (GitHub Copilot)
The button opens VS Code and asks you to install the server. Or run this in a terminal:
code --add-mcp '{"name":"nexus3d","command":"npx","args":["-y","nexus3d-mcp@latest"]}'
Then use Copilot Chat in Agent mode. It needs VS Code 1.102 or newer.
Windsurf
- In the Cascade panel, click the MCPs icon at the top right, then Configure. That opens
~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json. - Add Nexus3D under
mcpServers, save, and refresh the list in the MCPs panel.
{
"mcpServers": {
"nexus3d": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "nexus3d-mcp@latest"]
}
}
}
Other tools
OpenAI Codex: add this to ~/.codex/config.toml.
[mcp_servers.nexus3d]
command = "npx"
args = ["-y", "nexus3d-mcp@latest"]
Gemini CLI and Google Antigravity take the same mcpServers entry as Claude Desktop (Gemini CLI in ~/.gemini/settings.json).
Any other MCP client that runs servers on your computer: the command is npx with the arguments -y nexus3d-mcp@latest. Assistants that only run in a web page, such as ChatGPT in the browser, can't reach a server on your computer yet.
@latest checks for a new version each time your AI tool starts, so restart it to pick up an update.
Connecting to your project
- Open your project in Nexus3D in Chrome, Edge or Firefox, on the same computer as your AI tool.
- Open AI agent in the side rail and press Connect. Nexus3D shows a 6-digit code.
- Tell your agent: “Connect to Nexus3D with code 123456”. The app bar shows AI connected, and the panel lists everything the agent does.
If your browser asks whether Nexus3D may access apps and services on this device, allow it: that's the connection to the server on your computer.
Things to ask
- Lay out a 3-bed house of about 120 m² with an open-plan kitchen.
- Make the study 1 m wider and add a window on the east wall.
- Furnish the bedroom.
- Check the door widths and stairs against the usual rules.
- Give me a door and window schedule with marks.
- Show me the shadows at 9 am on the winter solstice.
The agent looks at the model, in 3D and on the plan, to check its own work.
