AI agents

Connect Claude, Cursor, VS Code or another AI tool to your open project through MCP, and see and undo everything it changes.

You can work on a project by hand, or with your AI. Stori3D speaks MCP (the Model Context Protocol), so AI tools on your computer can look at the building you have open and change it with you. Every change shows in the app and can be undone.

Set up your AI tool

Open AI agent in the side rail. Step 1 there, Add Stori3D to your AI tool, has the quickest way in for your tool: pick it from the list.

  • Claude Desktop: press Get Stori3D for Claude Desktop and open the downloaded file. Claude Desktop asks whether to install it. It brings everything it needs, so you don't need to install anything else.
  • Cursor and VS Code: a button opens the tool and asks whether to install Stori3D.
  • Claude Code, OpenAI Codex and Gemini CLI: one command to copy into a terminal.
  • Windsurf and Google Antigravity: a few lines to paste into the tool's MCP settings.

Apart from the Claude Desktop extension, these run a small server, stori3d-mcp, with Node.js 18 or newer, which you install from nodejs.org. The AI agents page on our website has the same steps.

You set this up once per computer. With the usual setup, your AI tool fetches the newest version each time it starts. The Claude Desktop extension doesn't update itself: Stori3D tells you when to get it again.

Connect to your project

  1. Open your project in Stori3D in Chrome, Edge or Firefox, on the same computer as your AI tool.
  2. Open AI agent in the side rail and press Connect, under step 2. Start your AI tool if it isn't running.
  3. Once Stori3D finds your AI tool, it shows a 6-digit code and the sentence to paste: "Connect to Stori3D with code 123456". Paste it into your agent.

The app bar shows AI connected while an agent is connected. If your browser asks whether Stori3D may reach apps and services on this device, allow it: that's the connection to the server on your computer. Disconnect ends it. A code works for one pairing; press Connect again for a new one.

If Stori3D can't find your AI tool

After half a minute the panel lists what to check:

  • Your AI tool is running. If you set it up a moment ago, quit it completely and open it again, so it starts the Stori3D server.
  • Your AI tool lists stori3d among its MCP servers. In Claude Code, type /mcp; in Claude Desktop, look in Settings → Extensions (or Developer, if you added it by hand).
  • Node.js 18 or newer is installed, if your tool needs it: node -v in a terminal shows which you have.
  • Your browser hasn't been told to block apps and services on this device. If it has, allow them in the site settings (the icon at the left of the address bar) and reload.

Remember your AI tool

When the code shows, turn on Remember … on this computer before you paste it. Next time, pressing Connect is enough: your AI tool connects by itself, with no code.

While the page stays open, it also waits for your AI tool when its session ends (a new Claude Code session, or Claude Desktop restarted) and reconnects when it starts again. The panel says Waiting for … to start again; Stop waiting or Disconnect ends that. After you reload the page, press Connect once more.

It's remembered for that AI tool only, in this browser and in a file on your computer that only you can read. Forget remembered AI tools, in the AI agent panel, drops it. This needs stori3d-mcp 0.11 or newer; older versions keep asking for the code.

The agent works on whichever project is open in the tab you connected, in the cloud or only on this device.

What agents can do

Agents can:

  • read the project: levels, rooms, walls, doors, windows, furniture, schedules and the catalogue;
  • look at the model in 3D, on the plan and in elevations and sections, to check their own work;
  • move the camera, change level, cut sections and set the sun and sky;
  • draw rooms, walls, doors, windows, roofs, stairs, columns and furniture, and paint finishes;
  • save views, make tours, lay out sheets, set custom properties, and export files and images;
  • read and answer comments on a review link, with each issue's assignee, priority and due date;
  • draw lines, boxes, points and labels over your view to point something out, and clear them again.

Things to try:

  • "Lay out a ground floor with a living room, kitchen and WC, about 60 m²."
  • "Furnish the bedroom, and add a window on the east wall of the study."
  • "Plan a route from the front door to the garden and make it a tour."
  • "Give me a door and window schedule."

See and undo every change

Each change an agent makes is one undo step named "AI: …", like any other edit. The AI agent panel lists everything the agent does under Activity, and has a button to undo the latest AI change. Ctrl+Z (⌘Z on a Mac) works too.

Some changes always ask you first, with Allow or Don't allow: deleting a level or more than 10 elements, sharing or taking down a link, and answering a client's comment.

Keep the agent to looking

Turn on Read only under Permissions. The agent can look at the model and move the view, but not change the model.

Privacy and safety

  • The server runs on your computer and only talks to Stori3D's pages.
  • The agent sees nothing until you press Connect and give it the code, or, for an AI tool you asked Stori3D to remember, until you press Connect.
  • Agents can't run scripts in Stori3D or reach your account.
  • What the agent sees goes to the AI tool you chose, under its terms.

AI tools that only run in a web page, such as ChatGPT or claude.ai in the browser, can't reach the server on your computer. Safari and iPad aren't supported for connecting yet.

The in-app chat

A chat with Claude inside Stori3D is being tested and isn't on for everyone yet. If you're one of the testers, you'll see a Chat tab in the AI agent panel once you're signed in. Your AI tool is the other tab, for connecting your own AI tool as above.

See Plans and support for which plans include AI agents.

Script it yourself

More tools → Script console runs JavaScript against the project, as SketchUp's Ruby Console does. stori3d is the same API agents use: try stori3d.elements( { kind: 'wall' } ).length, or stori3d.drawOverlay( { id: 'note', items: [ { label: 'Check this', at: { x: 0, y: 0, height: 2700 } } ] } ) to draw over the view. print() writes to the console, Enter runs, Shift+Enter starts a new line, and ↑ brings back what you ran before. Changes are undoable like any other.
